VOLUNTEER

It's not just your life that's changing

If you're looking a for a way to give back, improve your emotional health, or maybe even fulfill some community service hours, volunteering with Friends of MCAS could be the opportunity for you. As a 100% volunteer-based organization, our volunteers are essential.

As FOMCAS has evolved, our volunteers are now responsible only for spending quality time with the dogs... that's it! (Event participation is always welcome.) We're looking for people who could spend as little as an hour at the MCAS facility in Columbia – as much as their schedule allows – to ensure that the pups are walked, loved on, and played with. A training session will be required prior to volunteering with FOMCAS, which is critical to everyone's safety.

Do you want to volunteer but aren't comfortable with animals? No problem! We have opportunities that may be a good fit for these folks as well.

1) For court-ordered community service, you must fill out an application on-site at Maury County Animal Services. 2) Standard volunteers under the age of 18 do not need to submit an application and can volunteer with their guardian (upon their application approval).

"When I started to volunteer I was skeptical because I thought it was just going to be just the 'dirty grunt work' but it was so much more than that. We get to spend so much time with the dogs and help their personality thrive to find the best home. The dogs have taught me as much as I have taught them."    - Kristi A.

The Perks of Volunteering

Better Mental Health

Instant Results

In a shelter, you can see an animal's personality change almost instantly when volunteering.

Here are some important things to note before submitting an application:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, or otherwise accompanied by an adult

  • There are physical demands of any volunteering position directly involving the animals. This is something that you would need to be comfortable with (for example, walking a dog that may have little to no leash training)

  • It's highly recommended that you have access to Facebook in order to keep up with volunteer communications, as they are managed via our Facebook group

  • We do require that you attend a 1-hr training session at Maury County Animal Services in Columbia
